About Senior Concierge

One Trusted Number. Home Life Handled.

Why Senior Concierge Exists

Senior Concierge was founded on a simple belief: seniors deserve to stay in the homes they love as they age, surrounded by the neighbors, routines, and memories that make their house a home.

We see older families in the DMV stretched thin, juggling calls to contractors and coordinating everything needed to maintain a safe and happy home. Sometimes their family members struggle to help from locations far away. The alternative, moving to an expensive retirement community, often means giving up the home and independence they’ve spent a lifetime building.

Senior Concierge exists to handle that coordination for local seniors. Call one trusted number, and we handle the rest.

Meet Our Founders

DK met Doug through his wife, Nia, a successful artist Doug mentored as a volunteer with SCORE, helping her double the size of her business. When Doug decided to come out of retirement to build Senior Concierge, he recruited DK to help him build it and to run the company for the long haul — a mission that hit close to home. DK was already walking his own parents through the decisions that come with aging in place, and he knew firsthand how much easier that journey was for them when a trusted family member or partner was helping them out.

DK was born and raised in Hawaii, and now calls Fairfax County home with his wife, Nia. The two share a love of travel — four continents together in the past two years, with Japan a yearly tradition — and DK trains for marathons and triathlons between trips, using the same discipline he brought home from the Navy.

DK holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and began his career in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a submariner — the same engineering and service background he shares with Doug — before moving into commercial real estate. He's the founder of Akamai Property Group, a commercial real estate investment firm, and hosts the Cashflow Breakfast Club Fairfax, a mastermind community for local investors and entrepreneurs. He brings that same structure and accountability to Senior Concierge: clear systems, and a genuine commitment to the people he serves.

Doug and his wife of 42 years, Jeannette, recently made the decision to age-in-place in the home they've owned in Northern Virginia for 39 years. It's the place where they raised three sons, on a street where they know all their neighbors. Discovering that there was no organization that could help them handle all the aspects of aging at home safely, he came out of retirement to found Senior Concierge. He recruited DK to take that journey with him and run the company long after he's gone — Senior Concierge is in this for the long haul. Doug expects to become a client of the company in the future.

Since Doug's "first retirement" in 2019, he and Jeannette have traveled to five continents and put more than 90,000 miles on their RV, visiting 49 states and 55 national parks. He's an avid photographer and cook, and active in his church community.

Doug's business career included stints as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer in IT, consulting, and healthcare firms. In the decade before he retired, he started a very successful business as an advisor to small business owners in a wide variety of industries. He has continued his advisor work after retirement as a volunteer with SCORE, the nation's largest network of business mentors, dedicated to helping entrepreneurs start, grow and sustain their businesses. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Engineering from Princeton University. He's also a Navy Veteran, a former submariner (like DK).

Both founders are U.S. Navy veterans — Senior Concierge is proud to be a veteran-owned business.
